Federal Government Recruitment 2026: FCSC Status (CBT Still Pending), Requirements, How to Apply and Scams to Avoid

📌 Latest status (checked 13 October 2026): There is no new Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) recruitment open. The last exercise, for 2,130 vacancies, closed to applicants on 17 March 2025, and shortlisting was finished in June 2025. The computer-based test (CBT) for shortlisted candidates still has not been held: on 31 August 2026 the FCSC said it will set the CBT date once the money for the remaining stages is released, and will announce it only through its official channels. Where the FCSC Recruitment Stands

1. Applications (early 2025). The FCSC took applications on its portal, recruitment.fedcivilservice.gov.ng, until 17 March 2025.
2. Shortlisting (June 2025). On 3 June 2025 the Commission said shortlisting was finished and that there were 2,130 vacancies, not the 10,000 claimed in some media reports.
3. CBT still pending (August 2026). On 31 August 2026 the FCSC, under its chairman Prof. Tunji Olaopa, said it remains committed to completing the exercise. Once funds for the outstanding stages are released, shortlisted candidates will be assigned to states for the CBT, and the date and venues will be published on the Commission’s official channels.

If you were shortlisted: wait for the official CBT notice on fedcivilservice.gov.ng and the Commission’s verified social media. Ignore anyone claiming “inside information” or selling CBT dates or slots; the FCSC has disowned fake shortlists before.

If you did not apply: there is no new FCSC window. Prepare your documents now so you are ready when the next one is announced.

How Federal Government Recruitment Works

The Federal Civil Service Commission appoints staff into the mainstream federal civil service: the ministries and extra-ministerial departments. It advertises vacancies on its website, in national newspapers and on broadcast media, and takes applications only through its own portal.

Why Federal Jobs Are Sought After

• Salary through IPPIS, the federal payroll system, paid monthly into your bank account.
• Pension under the Contributory Pension Scheme, with contributions from you and the government.
• Job security: dismissal follows the Public Service Rules.
• Allowances on top of basic pay, which vary by grade level.
• Health insurance, paid annual leave and possible study leave.

What Does the Federal Civil Service Pay?

Federal civil servants are paid on the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), by grade level and step, plus allowances. Graduates usually enter at Grade Level 08, holders of OND or NCE at Grade Level 06 or 07, and O’Level holders lower. No federal worker can legally be paid less than the national minimum wage of ₦70,000 a month set in 2024. General Requirements

Requirements depend on the job, so always read the advert. FCSC exercises usually ask for:

• Nigerian citizenship, with a birth certificate or declaration of age
• Qualifications for the grade: a degree or HND for officer roles (with any professional certification the job needs), OND or NCE for executive and technical roles, and O’Level results (usually five credits including English and Mathematics)
• NYSC discharge or exemption certificate for graduates
• NIN, a working email address and phone number
• Certificate of state of origin and LGA identification letter: appointments follow the federal character principle, so your state matters
• Any age limit stated in the advert
• Good character; some roles also require medical fitness

Documents to Prepare Now

• A short, current CV
• Degree, HND, OND or NCE certificate, and transcripts
• WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results
• NYSC discharge certificate, exemption certificate or exclusion letter
• Birth certificate or declaration of age
• LGA identification letter and certificate of state of origin
• NIN slip, and a valid ID card
• A recent passport photograph
• Professional certificates if the job requires them (for example ICAN, COREN, NMCN)

How to Apply When a Window Opens

1. Confirm the vacancy on fedcivilservice.gov.ng (or the agency’s own website).
2. Read the advert in full: positions, qualifications, deadline and rules such as applying for only one post.
3. Apply on the official portal: for the FCSC, recruitment.fedcivilservice.gov.ng.
4. Fill the form accurately and upload clear scans in the format asked for.
5. Submit early: portals slow down near the deadline.
6. Watch your email and the official website for shortlisting, CBT and interview notices.
7. Bring originals of every document to screening and interview.

Federal Job Scams: How to Protect Yourself

• Applying is free. Any request for money to apply, to be shortlisted, to “process” your file, for a CBT slot or for an appointment letter is fraud.
• Fake shortlists and fake vacancy numbers. The FCSC has publicly disowned fictitious shortlists and the false claim of 10,000 vacancies. Check every list on the official website.
• Cloned portals. Look for the exact .gov.ng address; copycat sites collect fees and personal data.
• “Connection” sellers. No one can guarantee you a federal job for money.
• WhatsApp and Telegram “recruitment”. Official exercises are announced on official websites and in national newspapers.
• Report fraud to the EFCC or the police, and warn others.
