📌 Quick answer: The Nigerian Army’s 92 Regular Recruits Intake (92RRI) is open on the only official portal, recruit.army.mil.ng. Non-tradesmen and women must be 18 to 22, tradesmen and women up to 26, and special skilled applicants up to 35, with ages counted on 21 October 2026. You need at least four O’level passes including English, a NIN and BVN with matching details, and a minimum height of 1.68m (men) or 1.65m (women). There is no computer-based test. Shortlisted candidates are screened in their state of origin from 17 November to 1 December 2026. Applying is free.
The 92RRI is the Army’s second regular intake of 2026, after the 91RRI earlier in the year. It recruits soldiers into three streams: non-tradesmen and women (general duty), tradesmen and women (applicants with a trade certificate), and a smaller special skilled stream for experienced technicians. This guide takes every requirement and instruction from the recruitment portal itself, so you can check yourself against the rules before you submit.
About the deadline: the portal says “92RRI Online Application is ongoing” but does not print a closing date. It measures every applicant’s age “by 21 October 2026”, which is also the date applicants have been told the window closes. Treat 21 October as your deadline and do not leave it to the last day, when the portal is at its slowest.

- Education: at least four passes including English Language in WASSCE, GCE, NECO, NABTEB or NBAIS, in not more than two sittings. Tradesmen and women also need a Trade Test or City and Guilds certificate.

- Height: at least 1.68 metres for men and 1.65 metres for women.
- Fitness: medically, physically and psychologically fit by Army standards.

Things that will disqualify you at screening
- Any tattoo, piercing or inscription on the body, other than tribal marks.
- Multiple ear piercings for women.
- Forged or falsified documents. Recruits found out later are withdrawn from training.
- Electronic or recording devices at the screening venue.
How to Apply for 92RRI: Step by Step
- Get your documents ready first: NIN, BVN, O’level results, birth certificate, certificate of state of origin and a passport photograph. Check that your name and date of birth are spelt the same way on all of them.
- Go to recruit.army.mil.ng and create an account. Keep your username and password safe; you will need them to log back in.
- Verify your NIN. The portal accepts three methods: type your NIN directly; enter a six-character Share Code generated in NIMC’s NINAuth app; or scan the portal’s QR code with the NINAuth app.
- Choose your category (Regular: Trades or Non-Trades, or Special Skilled) and fill in the form carefully.
- Print your photo card, then submit the application online. The portal is clear that failing to submit online after printing the photo card leads to disqualification.
- Print and complete the forms for screening: declaration by applicant, parent or guardian form, LGA certification, police certification and guarantor’s form.
- Watch for the shortlist. Names of shortlisted candidates will be published on the Nigerian Army website before screening.
Your NIN details are the most common stumbling block. If your NIN has a different spelling or date of birth from your BVN, fix it before you apply; our BVN and NIN guide shows how to check both, and the NIN modification guide explains how to correct errors.
Documents to Take to the State Screening
Bring duly signed copies of these to your state screening centre, together with the originals of your certificates:
| Document | Who signs it |
|---|---|
| Photo card | Printed from the portal |
| Declaration by applicant | You |
| Parent/guardian form | Your parent or guardian |
| Certification by LGA | Your local government chairman or secretary |
| Certification by police | The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) |
| Guarantor’s form | Your guarantor, as stated on the form |
| Original educational certificates | Primary to secondary school |
| NIN slip and BVN slip | Special skilled applicants: BVN slip signed and stamped by your bank |
| Birth certificate and certificate of state of origin | Issuing authority |
Screening for shortlisted candidates runs from 17 November to 1 December 2026 in each candidate’s state of origin. There is no special centre for recruitment, so do not travel to Lagos or Abuja expecting to be screened there. Our military recruitment guide explains what happens at screening and how to prepare for the fitness test.
Avoid These Five Mistakes
- Applying with your state of residence. The Army screens you in your state of origin and checks your certificate of state of origin.
- Printing but not submitting. The photo card is not the application. Click submit.
- Mismatched names. “Mohammed” on your NIN and “Muhammad” on your WAEC result is enough to cause trouble. Correct it before you apply.
- Paying anyone. The Army says recruitment is free and warns candidates not to give any gratification to anyone. People who promise a slot for money are scammers.
- Using a look-alike website. Apply only on recruit.army.mil.ng. Social media links to other sites are not official.
Still unsure about an instruction? The Army’s recruitment support lines are 193, 07036499094 and 09041116433, and the email address on the portal is recruitment@army.mil.ng (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm).
