📌 Quick answer: The 2026 WAEC GCE (officially the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2026 Second Series) ends on Wednesday 28 October 2026 with Technical Drawing. WAEC has not announced a results date. For the last two private-candidate series, results came out 61 days (2025 Second Series) and 41 days (2026 First Series) after the final paper. If WAEC repeats that pattern, results would arrive between about 8 and 28 December 2026. That is our arithmetic, not a WAEC date. When the results are out, you check them on waecdirect.org with your 10-digit examination number, the year 2026, “Private Candidate Results” and a WAEC result checker e-PIN.
About 56,000 people registered for this year’s second series, according to WAEC. Many of them are writing to fix one or two missing credits before a university, polytechnic or job application. So the questions we get most at this stage are practical: when the result will be out, how to check it without wasting a scratch card, and what to do if it is withheld. This guide answers each one using WAEC’s own timetable and statements, and it says clearly where WAEC has not yet given an answer.
If you need the full list of papers, see our WAEC GCE 2026 second series timetable. Below are only the papers still left from Friday 23 October.
Papers Still Left (23–28 October 2026)
| Date | Paper | Duration | Nigerian time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fri 23 Oct | French 1 (Objective) | 1 hr | 10:45am – 11:45am |
| Fri 23 Oct | Health Education / Health Science 2 (Essay) | 1 hr 30 mins | 3:30pm – 5:00pm |
| Fri 23 Oct | Health Education / Health Science 1 (Objective) | 1 hr | 5:00pm – 6:00pm |
| Sat 24 Oct | Civic Education 2 (Essay) | 2 hrs | 9:30am – 11:30am |
| Sat 24 Oct | Civic Education 1 (Objective) | 1 hr | 11:30am – 12:30pm |
| Tue 27 Oct | Music 3A (Aural) | 45 mins | 2:00pm – 2:45pm |
| Wed 28 Oct | Technical Drawing 3 (Sketches, Building and Mechanical Drawing) | 2 hrs 45 mins | 9:30am – 12:15pm |
| Wed 28 Oct | Technical Drawing 2 (Essay) | 1 hr 45 mins | 2:30pm – 4:15pm |
| Wed 28 Oct | Technical Drawing 1 (Objective) | 1 hr | 4:15pm – 5:15pm |
WAEC’s PDF prints the Civic Education times as “9:30am – 11:30pm” and “11:30pm – 12:30pm”. The stated durations (two hours, then one hour from a 9:30am start) show these are morning times, which is how we have listed them. The timetable also says that where the duration on a question paper differs from the timetable, you follow the question paper, and that candidates with special needs get one and a half times the normal time.
How Many Candidates Wrote It, and What Changed This Year
WAEC’s Head of National Office, Suleiman Kum, said at least 56,000 candidates registered for this series, including about 272 walk-in candidates who entered to fix individual subjects. Lagos alone had more than 22,000 candidates. He spoke on Saturday 17 October while inspecting the computer-based English Language paper at WAEC’s Training and Testing Centre in Ogba, Lagos, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
Two things are different from last year:
- It is computer-based. Kum said WAEC introduced CBT in 2024 and has kept refining it to reduce malpractice. Both of the previous private-candidate series were also written as computer-based exams (CB-WASSCE).
- It started and ends much earlier. The 2025 Second Series ran from 11 November to 17 December 2025. This year’s runs from 4 September to 28 October, about seven weeks earlier. If marking takes a similar time, results should also come earlier than last year’s February release.
When Will the WAEC GCE 2026 Result Be Released?
For the last two private-candidate series, WAEC announced each release on the day itself, through a press statement and its official X account, rather than giving a date in advance. As of 18 October 2026, it had not said when this series’ results would be out. What we can do is look at how long the last two private-candidate series took.
| Series | Exam period | Results released | Gap after last paper |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 Second Series (CB-WASSCE) | 11 Nov – 17 Dec 2025 | Mon 16 Feb 2026 | 61 days |
| 2026 First Series (CB-WASSCE) | 28 Jan – 14 Feb 2026 | Fri 27 Mar 2026 | 41 days |
| 2026 Second Series | 4 Sep – 28 Oct 2026 | Not yet announced | – |
Adding 41 days to 28 October gives 8 December. Adding 61 days gives 28 December. So if WAEC works at the same pace as its last two private series, the result should be out some time in December 2026. Treat that as a guide for planning, not a promise. The gap moved by three weeks between the last two series, and the number of candidates was very different: 10,480 sat the 2026 First Series, against 65,752 for the 2025 Second Series.
One more detail from the last release: when WAEC announced the 2026 First Series results on 27 March, its statement said candidates could access their results “within the next 12 hours”. If your result does not show the moment you see the news, wait a few hours before trying again. Your result checker card allows only a limited number of uses, so there is no point spending them on a result that has not loaded yet.
How to Check Your WAEC GCE Result on waecdirect.org
These are the steps printed on WAEC’s result checker page, checked on 18 October 2026:
- Go to www.waecdirect.org. Type the address yourself rather than clicking a link someone forwards to you.
- Enter your 10-digit WAEC examination number. This is your 7-digit centre number followed by your 3-digit candidate number, for example 4123456789. It is on your photocard.
- Enter the examination year: 2026.
- Select the type of examination: choose “Private Candidate Results”. The GCE is a private-candidate exam, so do not pick “School Candidate Results”.
- Enter the e-PIN voucher (serial) number from your result checker card.
- Enter the PIN on the same card.
- Click Submit and wait for the results window to load.
WAEC’s page warns that each result checker card can be used only a limited number of times. Once you exhaust it, you have to buy a new one. WAEC publishes a list of its e-PIN mega dealers’ outlets on the same site; buy from those rather than from strangers on social media. For more on checking, see our guide to checking your WAEC result.
Digital certificates
When WAEC released the 2025 Second Series results, it said digital copies of candidates’ certificates had been released along with the results, on its Digital Certificate platform. It advised candidates to check their results on waecdirect.org first. If you need your result confirmed for a school or employer later, see our guide to WAEC confirmation of result.
If Your Result Is Withheld or Incomplete
Not every candidate gets a full result on release day. In February 2026, WAEC said that, of the 65,752 candidates who sat the 2025 Second Series:
- 61,943 (94.21%) had their results fully processed and released;
- 3,809 (5.79%) still had some subjects being processed “due to errors traceable to them”. WAEC said it was working to finish these quickly;
- 1,899 (2.89%) had results withheld over alleged examination malpractice. WAEC said the cases would be investigated and decided by a committee of the Council, and that the decisions would be communicated directly to the candidates.
For the 2026 First Series, WAEC said 75 candidates (0.72%) had their results withheld. If yours is withheld or shows missing subjects, check your registration details for errors first, then contact the WAEC office where you registered. Do not pay anyone who claims they can “release” a withheld result. Our explainer on withheld WAEC results covers the common reasons.
What to Do While You Wait
- Keep your photocard and examination number safe. You need the 10-digit number to check your result and for every confirmation request afterwards.
- Watch the admission calendar. At its 2026 policy meeting, JAMB set the end of admissions for this session at 31 October for public universities, 30 November for private universities and 31 December for polytechnics and colleges of education. A December GCE result will come after the public university deadline. If you are relying on it to complete your O’level requirements, speak to the admissions office of the school you applied to now.
- Plan the upload. Once you have the result, add it to your JAMB profile. Our guide on uploading your O’level result to JAMB CAPS explains how.
- Think about a backup sitting. If you are unsure about a subject, the next opportunity is WAEC’s First Series, which in 2026 was written between 28 January and 14 February. WAEC Nigeria had not published 2027 First Series registration dates when we checked. Our WAEC registration fee guide covers what registration currently costs.
