How USSD Codes Work in Nigeria
USSD codes are short strings starting with * and ending with # that trigger services through your mobile network — no internet needed. They work on any phone, including basic feature phones, and process in real time.
One Code for Every Network
The NCC has given all networks the same codes for common services: *310# for airtime balance, *312# to buy data, *323# for data balance and 300 for customer care. Bank USSD transfer limits are set by each bank, so check yours in the bank’s USSD menu.
Are USSD Transfers Safe?
Yes, when used correctly. All transactions require your 4-digit PIN. Never share your PIN. Never confirm a transaction you did not initiate yourself.

Are USSD codes free to use in Nigeria?▼
Most telecom codes are free. Bank transfer codes charge N6.98-N10.75 per transaction. BVN and NIN codes charge N20 each.
Why is my bank USSD code not working?▼
Common causes: poor signal, service downtime, wrong SIM, or number not registered with the account. Wait 5 minutes and retry.
Can I use bank USSD without airtime?▼
Most bank USSD services need a small airtime balance, because the session charge is billed to your line. Check with your bank if a code keeps failing.
Can I transfer to any Nigerian bank via USSD?▼
Yes. All major codes support inter-bank transfers via NIBSS. Typical limit is N100,000 per transaction.
What is the USSD code to check my BVN?▼
Dial *565*0# from the phone linked to your bank account. A N20 fee applies.
