Only the visa fee, health surcharge and biometrics are paid to the government. Proof-of-funds money stays yours: it has to be in your account (or your sponsor's) when you apply. Never pay an agent for a "guaranteed visa".
What the planner counts
- Visa or permit fee: paid to the UK Home Office or to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) when you apply.
- Immigration health surcharge (UK): paid for each year of your visa, for you and for each dependant. Health and Care Worker visa holders don’t pay it.
- Biometrics (Canada): fingerprints and a photo, paid with the application.
- Proof of funds: money that must be in your account, or your sponsor’s, when you apply. It stays yours. It is not a fee.
- Your own costs: tuition, flights, tests and first rent, if you add them.
Before you pay anyone
- Apply only on GOV.UK or the Government of Canada website (canada.ca). Visa fees are paid there, not to an agent.
- For a work visa, check that the employer is on the UK government’s register of licensed sponsors. A genuine employer does not sell you a certificate of sponsorship.
- No agent can guarantee a visa. Treat anyone who promises one as a scam.
- Keep proof-of-funds money in your account for the whole period the rules ask for (28 days in a row for a UK Student visa).
Why the naira figure changes
Fees are set in pounds or Canadian dollars, so the naira amount moves with the exchange rate. The planner shows the rate it used and the date it was recorded. If your bank or a bureau de change has given you a rate, type it in for an exact figure.

Is proof-of-funds money spent?
No. It has to be in your account, or your sponsor’s, when you apply, to show you can support yourself. You keep it, and it pays your living costs when you arrive.
Do dependants pay the same fees?
On UK work routes each dependant pays the same visa fee and health surcharge as the main applicant and needs savings of their own. Most UK undergraduate and taught master’s students can no longer bring dependants.
