Admissions closing dates for 2026: public universities 31 October, private universities 30 November, polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education 31 December. Meeting the minimum makes you eligible; it doesn't guarantee admission. Popular courses such as medicine and law usually need far higher scores.

How the minimum score works
Each year JAMB and the heads of institutions agree the lowest UTME score a school may accept. Every school then sets its own cut-off at or above that line, and popular courses at popular schools ask for far more. Meeting the minimum makes you eligible to be considered. It does not mean you will be admitted.
How your aggregate is worked out
Most universities combine your UTME and Post-UTME (screening) scores into one aggregate out of 100. The two most common methods are:
- 50:50: your UTME score divided by 8 (a mark out of 50), plus your Post-UTME score scaled to 50.
- 50:30:20: your UTME score divided by 8 (out of 50), your Post-UTME score scaled to 30, and your O’level grades in five relevant subjects scaled to 20.
Your school’s admission brochure says which method it uses and how it scores O’level grades. Check it before you rely on any figure.
After your result
- Upload your O’level results to your JAMB profile if you haven’t already.
- Accept or reject admission offers on JAMB CAPS (Central Admissions Processing System), inside your JAMB profile.
- Register for your school’s Post-UTME before its closing date.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a good JAMB score?
Any score above your chosen school’s cut-off for your course. For many courses at federal universities that is well above the national minimum, so look at the department’s cut-off from last year as a guide.
Can I get admission with the minimum score?
It is possible at schools and courses with fewer applicants, but it is not guaranteed. Keep a second choice in mind and check CAPS for offers.
How is the UTME score converted for the aggregate?
Divide it by 8 to get a mark out of 50. A score of 240 gives 30 out of 50.
