Nigeria Police Recruitment 2026: Latest on the 50,000 Constables, Training Date, Requirements and Scams

📌 Latest status (checked 13 October 2026): The 2025/2026 recruitment of 50,000 police constables is finished. The Police Service Commission (PSC) published the successful candidates on npfapplication.psc.gov.ng in July 2026 and handed all 50,000 recruits to the Nigeria Police Force for training in August. No official training start date has been announced yet; the police say training will begin once funds are released, and they have disowned at least two fake “resume for training” notices. No new application window is open.

Where the Recruitment Stands Now

1. Applications (15 December 2025 to early 2026). The PSC opened its portal, npfapplication.psc.gov.ng, on 15 December 2025 with a closing date of 25 January 2026. By the time it closed, it had received 616,873 applications for 50,000 places, about 12 applicants for every place.
2. Exams and the successful list (July 2026). On 15 July 2026 the PSC announced that candidates who sat the written examination could check their result on the portal from 16 July. Successful candidates were also told by email and SMS.
3. Handover to the police (August 2026). In the first week of August the PSC formally handed the 50,000 recruits to the Nigeria Police Force. The Deputy Inspector-General in charge of training, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, said nationwide training at police colleges would begin once funds are released. Inspector-General Olatunji Disu later said recruitment had reached its final pre-training stage, with a new training curriculum being prepared.
4. Fake training notices (September 2026). The police disowned a viral notice telling recruits to report for training on 18 September, and a forged press release telling them to check the portal from 14 September for their training college. Neither came from the police.

If you were successful: your training college and reporting date will come through the official portal and the email and phone number on your application. When you report, the PSC says you will need your training call-up slip, NIN slip, BVN slip and your original academic certificates with photocopies, plus anything else listed on the portal. You must pass the police medical examination at the college, and recruits who do not report within the stated period are treated as having declined the offer.

If you missed this exercise: no new recruitment has been announced. Any message saying “police recruitment form is out” should be checked against the PSC and Nigeria Police Force websites before you do anything.

Who Could Apply: The Requirements Used in This Exercise

These are the requirements in the PSC’s December 2025 advert. A future exercise is likely to use similar rules, but always read the new advert.

• Nigerian citizen by birth
• Age: 18 to 25 for General Duty; 18 to 28 for Specialists
• Height (General Duty): at least 1.67m for men and 1.64m for women
• Education (General Duty): WAEC, NECO, GCE or equivalent with at least five credits including English and Mathematics, in no more than two sittings
• Education (Specialists): at least four credits including English and Mathematics in no more than two sittings, plus at least three years’ experience and trade tests in the relevant field
• Fitness: medically, physically and psychologically fit
• NIN, a working email address and phone number: all notifications go through them

The Specialist Track

Besides General Duty constables, the exercise recruited Specialists: people with trades and skills the Force needs, such as medical, ICT, mechanical and communications work. The age limit is higher (28) and the O’Level requirement lower (four credits), but you need at least three years’ experience and trade test certificates. If you have a trade, this track is worth watching for in the next advert.

How Applications Work (When a Window Opens)

1. Confirm the window is genuinely open on the PSC website (psc.gov.ng) or the Nigeria Police Force website (npf.gov.ng), not from a forwarded broadcast.
2. Gather your documents: NIN, O’Level results, birth certificate or declaration of age, certificate of state of origin, passport photograph, working email and phone number.
3. Apply only on the official portal named in the advert. In this exercise it was npfapplication.psc.gov.ng. Type the address yourself.
4. Fill the form once and truthfully. Duplicate applications cause problems, and false information leads to disqualification.
5. Upload clear scans of your documents.
6. Save and print your confirmation slip.
7. Watch the portal, your email and SMS for exam and screening instructions.

Cost of everything above: ₦0. The PSC says no payment is required at any stage.

The Selection Stages

1. Online application on the PSC portal.
2. Written examination (computer-based or written, as announced).
3. Successful list published on the portal, with email and SMS notifications.
4. Reporting at a police training institution for documentation and medical screening. Failing the medical means disqualification from training.
5. Training at a police college, then posting.

What Does a Police Constable Earn?

Police pay is set by the Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS) plus allowances, and the government does not publish a simple, current table for each rank. Figures shared online for a new constable’s pay vary widely and most cannot be traced to an official source, so we do not repeat them here. Your exact pay will be in your letter of appointment. Treat any website selling a “leaked salary structure PDF” as bait.

Beyond salary, a police career brings training, a pension, and a defined path for promotion, along with the real risks and demands of policing, which deserve honest thought before you apply.

🚨 Police Recruitment Scams: What to Watch For

1. The application is free. Nobody is authorised to collect money for forms, screening, the successful list, “fast-tracking” or training kits. Any payment request, at any stage, is fraud.
2. Fake training notices. In September 2026 alone the police disowned two forged notices with training dates. Training dates come through the portal and the contact details on your application.
3. Official portals only. Cloned “police recruitment” sites collect NIN details and payments.
4. Slot sellers. People who promise to “add your name” to the list for money are fraudsters.
5. Lists live on the portal. Check your own result by logging in, not through a circulating PDF or a “checker” site that charges a fee.
6. Guard your NIN and BVN. Enter them only on official portals and give your BVN slip only at the training institution.

Be Ready for the Next Recruitment

• Sort your documents: O’Levels (five credits including English and Maths for General Duty), birth certificate, certificate of state of origin, NIN.
• Fix any name differences between your NIN, certificates and other documents before you apply.
• Check you meet the height and age limits for the cadre you want.
• Get fit: the medical and physical screening is a real hurdle.
• Practise aptitude tests: English, arithmetic, current affairs and reasoning.
