Batch C online registration for both streams held from Monday 7 to Sunday 13 September 2026. NYSC splits each batch into two streams so camps are not overcrowded. Your stream is shown on your dashboard and call-up letter. For packing lists and camp tips, see our NYSC 2026 Batch C camp guide.
Missed Batch C? What Happens Next
If your name was not on your school’s senate list in time, or you did not complete registration between 7 and 13 September, you will be considered for 2027 Batch A. NYSC has not published the 2027 timetable yet. In 2026, Batch A Stream I went to camp in late January, so registration for 2027 Batch A is likely to come around the turn of the year. Use the waiting time well:
- Get your NERD clearance now. NYSC will not register you without it, and late clearance is a common reason graduates miss a batch.
- Confirm you are on your school’s senate list with your Student Affairs or NYSC desk, and that your name, date of birth and graduation date are correct.
- Make sure your NIN details match your statement of result exactly. A mismatch blocks registration.
- Check your JAMB admission record. Schools are declining candidates whose names are missing from the JAMB matriculation list or whose JAMB CAPS name differs from their statement of result.
How the NYSC Batch and Stream System Works
NYSC mobilises graduates three times a year, in Batches A, B and C, and each batch has two streams. You do not choose your batch. It depends on when your institution uploads its senate-approved list of graduates to the NYSC portal. If your school uploads late, you move to a later batch even if you finished your degree earlier.
| Batch | Usual camp period (2026 pattern) |
| Batch A | Stream I in January–February, Stream II in April–May |
| Batch B | Stream I in June–July, Stream II in August |
| Batch C | Stream I in September–October, Stream II in November |
Who Must Serve, and Who Is Exempted or Excluded
NYSC is compulsory for Nigerian graduates of full-time degree and HND programmes who graduate before the age of 30. Graduates of foreign universities serve too, after physical verification of their certificates.
- Exempted (you get an exemption certificate): graduates who were 30 or older at graduation, and some others such as serving members of the armed forces and police. See our NYSC exemption certificate guide.
- Excluded (you get an exclusion letter): graduates of part-time, sandwich, distance learning and similar programmes, including NOUN. See our NYSC exclusion letter guide.
- Not eligible: OND and NCE holders. HND holders are mobilised.
An exemption certificate or exclusion letter is what employers accept in place of a discharge certificate, so do not ignore it if you are not serving.
NERD Clearance: The New Rule You Cannot Skip
NERD is the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank, a federal platform that verifies and stores academic records to stop certificate fraud. NYSC announced in May 2026 that it would enforce NERD compliance from the 2026 Batch B Stream I orientation course. For Batch C it told prospective corps members plainly: “No NERD clearance, no NYSC registration.”
- Who needs it: every prospective corps member, and graduates seeking an exemption certificate.
- How it works: your academic record must be verified on NERD, with your institution’s records behind it. Ask your school’s Student Affairs or NYSC desk exactly how your school handles NERD clearance and whether your record is already verified.
- When to do it: before the registration portal opens. Schools warn that graduates without clearance will not be registered at camp.
How to Register for NYSC: Step by Step
Registration only works during the window NYSC announces for your batch.
- Confirm you are on the senate list. Your institution uploads the list to the NYSC portal. If your name is missing or wrong, ask your Student Affairs office to correct it before the final upload. Errors found after upload can stop you registering at camp.
- Get your NERD clearance. See the section above.
- Create your account on portal.nysc.org.ng with an email you check daily, your NIN and your details exactly as they appear on your statement of result.
- Complete your biodata and academic details. Your name must match your certificate, NIN and JAMB record letter for letter.
- Capture your fingerprints. Registration needs biometric capture with a compatible fingerprint scanner, usually at a cybercafé or registration point.
- Submit and print your registration slip (green card). Keep it with your documents.
- Watch your dashboard for your call-up number, then print your call-up letter.
Foreign-trained graduates must also attend physical verification of their certificates at the venue and dates NYSC announces for their batch. Bring your original certificates, international passport and the documents listed in the notice.
Your Call-Up Letter
The call-up letter tells you your state of deployment, your camp and your reporting date. You cannot enter camp without it.
- Log in to portal.nysc.org.ng.
- Check your dashboard for your call-up number. It usually appears before the letter is ready.
- When the letter is available, print it clearly on white A4 paper. Keep a PDF copy on your phone too.
- If NYSC announces a change to your state’s camp date or venue, reprint the letter before you travel.
Documents to Take to Camp
- Printed call-up letter and registration slip (green card)
- Statement of result or certificate
- School ID card
- NIN slip or national ID card
- NERD clearance
- Medical certificate of fitness from a government hospital
- Passport photographs, at least six
- Foreign-trained graduates: international passport and physical verification documents
- Pregnant or nursing mothers: supporting medical documents, as camp arrangements differ
- Photocopies of everything, kept separately from the originals
Your call-up letter lists the exact documents your camp checks, so read it before you pack.
Orientation Camp: What the Three Weeks Look Like
Camp runs for about three weeks in your state of deployment. Days start before dawn with parade and drills, followed by lectures and Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) sessions, then platoon activities, sports and cultural rehearsals. You are sworn in during the first week, and camp ends with a closing ceremony after which you report to your PPA.
NYSC’s Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, has repeatedly urged prospective corps members to avoid night travel and to board vehicles only at designated motor parks. Plan to arrive early in the registration window so you are not rushing at the deadline.
State Posting and Your PPA
NYSC posts you outside your state of origin through its deployment system. You cannot pick your state, though married women can ask to serve in their husband’s state with a marriage certificate and supporting documents.
Your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) is the school, hospital, ministry, company or NGO where you work for the rest of the year. Postings are announced in camp. You can improve your chances of a good PPA by self-sourcing: contact organisations in your deployment state with your CV and call-up letter, and ask them for an acceptance letter addressed to the NYSC state coordinator. Many banks, firms and NGOs pick corps members this way.
NYSC Allowance 2026: ₦77,000
The federal government pays corps members ₦77,000 a month, up from ₦33,000. It goes into the bank account you registered with NYSC, so use an active account in your own name. Some state governments and many private PPAs pay extra. The amount varies widely, so ask your PPA directly.
Redeployment (Relocation)
Redeployment moves you to another state after posting. It is only granted on specific grounds:
- Marriage: to join your spouse, with a marriage certificate.
- Health: when your condition needs care not available in your state, with medical reports from a government hospital.
- Security: assessed case by case by NYSC.
Apply through the official process, usually from your NYSC dashboard during the window NYSC announces, with your supporting documents. Approval is not guaranteed. NYSC regularly warns about fake redeployment notices and agents who charge money.
Community Development Service (CDS)
Once a week, usually on Thursdays, you meet your CDS group in your local government area to work on community projects such as health outreaches, school support and environmental campaigns. Attendance is recorded and counts towards your clearance at the end of service. Our CDS guide explains the groups and how projects work.
How to Get the Most From Your Service Year
- Self-source a PPA that builds your career. A year at a strong employer is work experience, a reference and sometimes a job offer.
- Treat the PPA like a real job. Punctuality and good work are what turn corps members into staff.
- Take SAED seriously. The camp training in digital skills, catering, fashion, agriculture and more is free and certified.
- Add certifications. Use evenings and weekends for online courses in data, digital marketing, project management or your field.
- Build a network in your deployment state through your PPA, CDS and fellow corps members.
Your Discharge Certificate
At the end of your service year you receive your discharge certificate at the passing-out ceremony, provided you completed service, met CDS and PPA clearance requirements and have no disciplinary case. Employers, government agencies and many postgraduate schools ask for it. Leaving service before the end (absconding) means no certificate and a remobilisation process, so speak to your state secretariat before taking any break.
