MTN Data Plans in Nigeria 2026: Prices, Codes and Best Value (October 2026)

📌 Quick Summary: MTN Nigeria sells data as daily, 2-day, weekly, 2-week, monthly, 2-month, 3-month and yearly bundles. Entry prices: 75MB for ₦75 (24 hours), 2.5GB for ₦750 (24 hours), 11GB for ₦3,500 (7 days) and 2GB + 2 minutes for ₦1,500 (30 days). The biggest monthly bundles are 75GB for ₦18,000 and 165GB for ₦35,000. Dial *312# or *312*1# to browse plans, or text a plan’s keyword to 312. Prices below were checked against MTN Nigeria’s official data plans page on 8 October 2026.

MTN’s data prices have moved several times in the past two years, which is why so many older lists online are wrong. This guide copies the current bundle table from MTN’s own website and adds the activation method for each plan, plus the rules on transfers and rollover that MTN publishes on its data plans overview page. Anything we could not confirm from MTN’s own pages has been left out rather than guessed.

How to Buy MTN Data

MTN lists these ways to subscribe: dial *312*1# or *904# and pick a plan; text the plan’s keyword to 312 (keywords are in the tables below); use the myMTN NG app (text myMTN to 5018 to get the download link); use myMTN Web, MTN TopIt/VTU, MTN’s Zigi chatbot or MTN’s Facebook mobile centre. You can also activate any plan by dialling *312#.

Two practical points. First, some bundles are not available through USSD or SMS. MTN shows the 20GB weekly plan as digital-channels-only and the ₦200 1GB Smart Bundle as app-only. Second, the 15GB weekly plan at ₦4,000 is for prepaid customers only; postpaid lines cannot buy it.

MTN Monthly Data Plans (30 Days)

Several monthly plans carry extras that MTN lists alongside the main bundle. The 2GB, 2.7GB, 3.5GB and 10GB plans include 200MB for YouTube all day and 2GB for all-night streaming. The 12.5GB and 16.5GB plans include 300MB for YouTube all day and 2GB all-night streaming. The 7GB plan includes 2GB all-night streaming, and the 20GB and 25GB plans include 4GB all-night streaming. The 10GB, 12.5GB, 16.5GB, 36GB and 75GB plans are marked as eligible for data roaming. The 18.6GB and 45GB plans are labelled Always On by MTN. The plans page does not spell out what that changes, so read the plan description in the myMTN NG app before you buy.

MTN 2-Month, 3-Month and Yearly Plans

Which MTN Plan Gives the Best Value?

MTN prints a naira-per-MB rate on each plan, so you can compare directly. On its table, the cheapest rates are the yearly 800GB plan at ₦0.15/MB and the 3-month 480GB plan at ₦0.18/MB. Among 30-day plans, the 45GB Always On bundle is listed at ₦0.20/MB, the 165GB and 250GB bundles at ₦0.21/MB, and the 75GB bundle at ₦0.23/MB. For comparison, the 25GB monthly plan is listed at ₦0.30/MB and the 10GB plan at ₦0.35/MB.

In practice: if you use around 2GB a month or less, the ₦1,500 2GB monthly plan is the cheapest 30-day bundle on the table. If you need data for one heavy day, the 3.5GB daily plan at ₦1,000 carries the lowest daily rate MTN prints (₦0.28/MB), with the 2.5GB plan at ₦750 close behind (₦0.29/MB). For regular monthly use, compare the 45GB Always On at ₦9,000 against the 25GB at ₦9,000: same price, but the 45GB plan gives far more data, while the 25GB plan adds 4GB of all-night streaming. If you stream mostly at night, weigh that bonus before you choose.

MTN Data Transfer, Gifting and Rollover Rules

These rules come from MTN’s data plans overview page. Customers with an active data subscription can transfer 100MB, 200MB, 500MB, 1GB, 2GB, 3GB or 5GB from their main data allowance. The maximum is 5GB per day and 10 transactions per month. Transferred data stays valid for 7 days (100MB to 2GB transfers) or 14 days (3GB and 5GB transfers). For bundles of 70GB and above, only 20 percent of the bundle can be transferred.

Rollover is conditional. MTN states that unused main data is rolled over only if you buy another plan from the same category as your current bundle within the grace period. Buying a different category of plan does not carry the balance over. MTN also lets customers who buy its Access bundles share their active balance with up to five registered beneficiaries through Family Share, with a minimum balance of 100MB needed to allocate data.

Contacting MTN

MTN’s data plans page lists 300 as its network helpline and info@mtn.ng for general enquiries. For plan problems, the myMTN NG app and the Zigi chatbot are the fastest routes MTN itself provides.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cheapest MTN data plan?

The smallest bundle on MTN’s table is 75MB for ₦75, valid for 24 hours. The cheapest 30-day plan on the table is 2GB plus 2 minutes for ₦1,500.

Why does my code not work for some MTN plans?

Some plans are sold only through digital channels. MTN lists the 20GB weekly plan (₦5,000) as digital-only and the 1GB Smart Bundle (₦200) as available on the myMTN NG app. Buy those through shop.mtn.ng or the app rather than USSD or SMS.

Does unused MTN data roll over?

Only if you buy another plan from the same category as your current bundle within the grace period, according to MTN’s overview page. Otherwise unused data expires with the plan.

Can I transfer MTN data to another number?

Yes, within MTN’s limits: set amounts from 100MB to 5GB, a maximum of 5GB per day and 10 transfers per month, with transferred data valid for 7 or 14 days depending on size.
