📌 Quick answer: You change your course or institution on JAMB’s e-Facility portal (efacility.jamb.gov.ng) under Correction of Data → Course/Institution. JAMB’s fee is ₦2,500, plus a ₦100 service charge if a CBT centre does it for you. Pay, enter your exam year and registration number, choose the new course or school, and submit; JAMB approves it if your scores and subjects qualify. Do it before you accept any admission offer, because an accepted admission cannot be changed, and before your new school closes admissions: for public universities that is 31 October 2026.
Every year thousands of candidates discover after their UTME result that their first-choice course or school is out of reach. Their score is below the departmental cut-off, they did not pass the school’s screening, or a better option has come up. The good news is that JAMB lets you change both, online, as many times as the system allows before admission. The bad news is that timing matters. Change too late and the school you want may have finished admitting; accept an offer first and you are locked in.
This guide follows JAMB’s own instructions and fee schedule, step by step.
How Much Is JAMB Change of Course or Institution in 2026?
| Service | JAMB fee | CBT service charge |
|---|---|---|
| Correction of data: institution/course | ₦2,500 | ₦100 |
| Correction of data: name, date of birth, state/LGA, gender or A’level | ₦2,500 each | ₦100 |
| JAMB result slip | ₦1,000 | ₦100 |
| JAMB admission letter | ₦1,000 | ₦100 |
One payment covers one application. If you want to change both your course and your institution, you can usually do it in the same Course/Institution application, because the form asks you to choose both your preferred course and institution. Anyone who asks for much more than these amounts is adding their own charge; JAMB’s figures are the ones above.
Before You Change: Check These Three Things
- Your score meets the new cut-off. JAMB’s 2026 minimum tolerable scores are 150 for universities and colleges of nursing, and 100 for polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education, but every school and department sets its own cut-off at or above that. Use our JAMB score and aggregate checker to see where you stand.
- Your UTME subjects fit the new course. Changing from Medicine to Nursing is easy if you wrote Biology, Chemistry and Physics; changing from Law to Computer Science is not, because the subject combinations differ. Check the combination in our JAMB subject combination guide first.
- Your O’level suits the new course. The school will look for five credits in the subjects that course requires. If your O’level result is not yet on CAPS, upload it, or the new school cannot consider you.
How to Change Your Course or Institution on JAMB: Step by Step
- Go to the e-Facility portal at efacility.jamb.gov.ng. New users click Sign Up and create a profile with a valid email address, surname, first name, phone number, state and LGA of origin and a password. Each candidate is allowed only one profile. Existing users simply log in.
- Open “Correction of Data” from the side bar or the home page, then click Course/Institution.
- Note your Transaction ID. JAMB generates it on the confirmation page in bold red and emails you a copy. Keep it; you will need it if anything goes wrong.
- Pay the ₦2,500 fee through your preferred payment gateway. You can check the status under My Payment.
- Enter your year of exam and JAMB registration number.
- Choose your new course and institution, including your second choices. Only courses and institutions available for your profile will appear.
- Click Submit. JAMB processes the request and, if approved, updates your details.
- Check CAPS. Log in to CAPS on the same portal and confirm that your new course and institution now show. JAMB’s support desk notes that the institution then downloads the updated candidate list from CAPS.
If you would rather not do it on your phone, any JAMB-accredited CBT centre can do it for you for the extra ₦100 service charge. Take your registration number, the email address and phone number you registered with, and the details of the course and school you want.
When Should You Change? The 2026 Deadlines
JAMB fixed the following closing dates for the 2026 admission exercise. Your change must be in place early enough for the new school to consider you before its window closes.
| Type of institution | 2026 admissions close |
|---|---|
| Public universities | 31 October 2026 |
| Private universities | 30 November 2026 |
| Polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education | 31 December 2026 |
For a public university this year, that leaves days, not weeks. If you are changing to a federal or state university, do it now and contact the school’s admissions office straight away. If the public university window has passed, a private university or a polytechnic may still be admitting.
The Rule That Catches People Out: Accepting an Offer
When a school offers you admission, it appears on CAPS with the options to accept or reject. JAMB’s support desk is clear that once accepted, your admission is finalised and cannot be changed. So if you are hoping for a different course or school, make the change before you click Accept, not after. If you reject an offer, you return to the pool for other schools that list you.
Change of Course vs Change of Institution: Which Do You Need?
| Your situation | What to change |
|---|---|
| Your score is below your department’s cut-off but above the school’s general cut-off | Course only, to a course in the same school with a lower cut-off |
| Your score is below the school’s general cut-off | Institution (and possibly course) to a school whose cut-off you meet |
| You failed the school’s screening | Institution, to a school that is still screening or admitting |
| The school offered you a different course and you agree | Nothing: accept the offer on CAPS |
Schools often offer a candidate a different course from the one chosen, especially when the candidate narrowly misses the cut-off. If that offer appears on CAPS and you are happy with it, simply accept it; you do not need to pay for a change of course.
Common Problems and Fixes
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The school or course you want is not in the list | It may not be available for your profile or subjects. Check the subject combination, or choose another school. |
| Payment went through but the form did not open | Log in again and check My Payment with your Transaction ID; then raise a ticket on support.jamb.gov.ng. |
| CAPS still shows the old course | Approval is not instant. Check again after a few days; if it still has not changed, raise a support ticket with your Transaction ID. |
| You forgot your registration number | Retrieve it on the e-Facility portal (₦1,000). |
