📌 Quick answer: Four big Nollywood titles are dated for December 2026. The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives opens in Nigerian cinemas on Friday 4 December, the same day Jagun Jagun 2: War of Warriors arrives on Netflix. Funke Akindele’s The Four: No One Fights Alone follows in cinemas on Friday 11 December, and Toyin Abraham’s Bestie opens on Wednesday 16 December. More December releases may still be announced.
December is Nollywood’s biggest month. Families are on holiday, the diaspora is home and cinemas fill up from the first week of the month to New Year. In recent years Funke Akindele’s December releases, A Tribe Called Judah (2023) and Everybody Loves Jenifa (2024), each set a new Nollywood box-office record, and producers now plan their year around the festive slot.
Here is the December 2026 slate so far, using dates announced by the filmmakers and distributors themselves.

The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives (4 December, cinemas)
Lola Shoneyin’s much-loved 2010 novel finally reaches the big screen. Set in Ibadan, it follows a wealthy, uneducated patriarch whose household of four wives is shaken when his newest wife, a university graduate, cannot conceive, and long-buried secrets start to surface.
- Director: Daniel Oriahi (The Weekend, Taxi Driver: Oko Ashewo)
- Producer: EbonyLife Films, Mo Abudu’s film company, with Genesis Media Group, Nile Media Entertainment Group, Silverbird Group and Flytime Entertainment
- Starring: Odunlade Adekola as Baba Segi, with Iyabo Ojo, Mercy Aigbe, Bimbo Ademoye and Omowunmi Dada as the wives
- Why it matters: it was selected for the Centrepiece programme of the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, and marks EbonyLife’s return to cinema releases.
Jagun Jagun 2: War of Warriors (4 December, Netflix)
The sequel to Femi Adebayo’s Yoruba warrior epic Jagun Jagun skips cinemas and goes straight to Netflix. Femi Adebayo announced on his official Instagram page that it premieres only on Netflix on 4 December 2026. He produces, and the film is directed by Tope Adebayo Salami and Adebayo Tijani. If you have a Netflix subscription, you can watch from home on release day.
The Four: No One Fights Alone (11 December, cinemas)
Funke Akindele writes, directs and produces her December 2026 film, which FilmOne Entertainment is distributing. Promotional material describes it as the story of Esosa and three loyal women who unite to fight for the future of a young man they love: a drama about friendship, motherhood and resilience. Funke Akindele leads a cast that, according to the announced line-up, includes Bisola Aiyeola, Chioma Akpotha, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Timini Egbuson, Lateef Adedimeji and Ali Nuhu.
Given her recent December record, this is the release most cinemas will be planning around.
Bestie (16 December, cinemas)
Toyin Abraham’s December comedy-drama opens nationwide on Wednesday 16 December, with FilmOne distributing. Cast announcements have so far revealed Pete Edochie as Papa Ngozi and Bolaji Ogunmola, with more names being unveiled in the build-up. A full synopsis has not yet been released.
How to Plan Your December Cinema Trips
- Book early for opening weekends. FilmOne has already opened presales for some December titles. Big Nollywood releases sell out quickly in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt in the first two weekends.
- Go on a weekday if you can. Weekday screenings are usually far quieter than Friday-to-Sunday shows in December.
- Check your cinema’s app or website for showtimes rather than relying on social media posts.
- Avoid pirated copies. Recording or sharing films in cinemas is illegal and hurts the producers who make December’s films possible.
