"Akinmolayan's most mature work yet. A domestic thriller built from silences and confrontations that gets better the more you think about it."

Deja Vu taps into one of contemporary Nigeria’s deepest social anxieties. Johnson (Lateef Adedimeji, career-best work) is a devoted husband whose world shatters when a routine DNA test reveals neither of his two children is biologically his. What follows is not a revenge drama but something more complex and more honest.

Mercy Aigbe is exceptional in a role requiring her to be simultaneously sympathetic and culpable. The film refuses to simplify her character into villain or victim. Niyi Akinmolayan shows he can generate sustained tension from a kitchen table conversation.

Verdict: Akinmolayan’s most mature work. A domestic thriller that gets better the more you think about it.
